The plastic recycling industry manages environmental waste by transforming plastic debris into reusable materials. 

While plastics are more recyclable than other materials, the industry faces challenges such as contamination, diverse plastic materials, and economic constraints. 

1. The global recycled plastics market size was valued at $47.60 billion in 2022 and is expected to exhibit a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4.9% from 2022 to 2030.
2. The Ellen MacArthur Foundation estimates that recycling the remaining 86% of used plastics could create revenue of around $80-120 billion, but limitations in the collection of raw materials are a major challenge for the market players.
3. In 2019, plastics generated 1.8 billion tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions, accounting for 3.4% of global emissions. 90% of these emissions were from the production and disposal of plastics.
